Celebrating a Special Half Birthday

My little girl turned 6 months on the 21st and I can't even believe that she is so big now! I say this probably every month but time really just flies by so fast and crazy.  Last week she would barely scoot around and now she is a pro and you have to also have your eye on her.  Seriously, she's fast now so don't leave remotes, shoes, or phones on your floor because you will have to fight her to get them back.

Me and Ben decided to have a little party with just the three of us to celebrate her milestone.  We got a delicious cupcake for us to share (except Brynlee, she just got a nice little bottle) which was AMAZING. And some old fashion root beer sodas as well as funky mustaches and just had a good old time.  I can't even begin to say how much fun this little girl is.  She has so much energy but she is so sweet and honestly a kind soul.  I know how corny that must sound but people tell us all the time how she just has this air about her.  The other day I was reading to her in her room and she was sitting on my lap.  She just looked up at me and put her hand on my arm.  I seriously was about to cry because it was so sweet.  Brynlee is the best!  So 6 months has brought us a lot of new changes! Brynlee weighs 15 lbs 5 ounces, 27 inches long, and her head measures at 16.  I can't believe how many people tell me how big she is but when you pick her up it's nothing...her rolls are very deceiving! The doctor said that this makes her in the 38th percentile for weight, 86th percentile for height, and the 7th percentile for her head. haha she does have a tiny head, but it looks good on her!
  • She eats 28 oz. a day.  It's pretty much always 4- 7 oz. bottles.
  • She's scooting her self everywhere! And fast too
  • She has an attitude when she is grumpy...We are trying to nip that in the bud.
  • Can sit up by herself for close to a minute at a time.
  • LOVES cameras, cell phones, and computers
  • Sleeps from 9pm wakes up at 5am for a quick diaper change and then back to sleep until 8-9ish.  Takes a solid 3 napes during the day.
  • She can sit up for only a few seconds at a time.  In fact, when we went for her well baby check-up I told her pediatrician and he said that two things definitely will contribute to her not sitting up on her own, 1) the fact that she can move all over the place, who would want to sit still now when there are toys to play with, and 2) she has quite the round butt.  I couldn't believe it, but honestly it is so true she has the cutest round little tushy

Happy Father's Day!

Our little family celebrated Father's Day on the 17th of June.  It was such a blast.  I gave Ben a little treat because our Church starts at 9 am, and I told him that we could have a "by day" this week and he was so excited! I let him sleep in and when he woke up Brynlee was there trying to open his month.  She really is the happiest baby when she wakes up.

Since this was Ben's first Father's Day I wanted to do something really special.  He had been asking for a grill since...well the snow melted! And I wanted to wait until Father's Day to give it to him.  I bought it about a month before and had it waiting at the store for me to pick up.  I've been telling him that we just couldn't afford it and that maybe we could get it in a couple of months.  Every time we passed by a grill for sale he would ask if he could get it.  It secretly was really hard for me to not laugh or smile.

Ben was getting suspicious the day before Father's Day and kept on guessing what I got him.  So to throw him off I pretended that he guessed right and then faked being upset.  It was so hard not to laugh again!  Father's Day morning came around and he got to sleep in and wake up to some yummy donuts... nutritious I know.  I didn't make a big breakfast because we were going to go out for an early lunch with some of Ben's family from Utah who came up.  He thought he was getting a razor so I totally tricked him when he opened up the curtains to the deck and saw the new propane grill completely set up with a BBQ tool set.  A big thanks to our friends the Kesters for completely assembling the grill! They are both awesome.  I also got him some picture frames for his desk at work that he asked for.  One with a wedding picture and one of Brynlee.

After we completely gorged ourselves at Famous Dave's with some yummy burgers, ribs, and other delectables we headed home and took a glorious Sunday nap.  Later that night we had some friends over for dinner...we had a BBQ craving so we feasted on BBQ chicken, macaroni salad, potato salad, tons of vegetables and some cheesecake.  The Kesters are such awesome friends and their son Gavin (just a month older then Brynlee) is so much fun!

Aqua and Coral Bedroom

So I am absolutely obsessed with decorating our bedroom.  It's the only room in our apartment that isn't decorated the way I want it.  We have the living room, kitchen and dining area, both bathrooms, and Brynlee's room, all done! Even our craft/exercise/office is decorated to an extent.  I've done little things like making a canvas headboard but really I just haven't put a whole lot of effort into it.  That however is going to change.  I am determined to have our room decorated by the beginning of September.  I want a really like airy feel to it with lots of white, coral, and blues.  Ben wasn't completely thrilled about it but in the end he knows that I won't do something that will look bad, and he will really like it when it's all put together.

It's so hard to look online to come up with different inspiration boards for our bedroom and not want to buy everything under the sun! To bad we are still college students and even though Ben's job pays good I can't just go out and spend $400 anytime soon.  So it will probably take forever if not longer to finish our bedroom, but a girl can dream right! And making these little boards keeps my creative juices flowing.  So eat your heart out people and take a look at this fun easy breezy room that I've put together.

Tuxedo Bow and Alligator Clip Tutorial

These little bows were so much fun to make! It was really hard finding a tutorial that explained the steps clearly and with pictures..and now I know whyy.  I don't know about you all, but I am definitely a visual learner!  I have a huge love for all baby bows.  Seriously I'm obsessed, I counted the other day and from the time Brynlee was born till right before I started making these she had about 30 different bows...That's a lot of bows for just a six month old.  It also was really pricey too.  I admit it...I'm an Etsy addict.  So with summer starting up I really wanted B to have some new summer bows to go with all her outfits.  But sense I'm not working anymore I couldn't bring myself to spend $6-$8 on just one bow.  So after searching pinterest, google, and tons of craft blogs I managed to take bits and pieces from different tutorials I just started fooling around with different ways to create a tuxedo bow. This was definitely a trial by error project, but it was sure fun! So here is my somewhat "attempt" at a tutorial.

My inspiration came from over at http://bowmamahairbows.com/item_1013/lace-tuxedo-bow-headband.htm
Material Needed:
  • 6 inch ribbon
  • 1, 2 inch ribbon of a coordinating color
  • 1, 4 inch ribbon of a coordinating color
  • alligator clip
  • hot glue gun
  • scissors
  • elastic headband
  • lighter
First, cut out all of the ribbon that you need.  Then take the six inch ribbon fold it in half so both ends are touching horizontally and move your lighter over the ends of the ribbon.  This will keep the ribbon from fraying in the future.  Your then going to find the center of your ribbon and draw a line of hot glue down. Fold right side first into the center.  Then fold the left side.  Have them touching but NOT overlapping.

Next you are going to pinch your ribbon so you should have 1 little bump.  This is the back of your ribbon. You're then going to add just a dab of glue.  Your not going to glue it in half exactly, your going to want to just glue a small part of the center.  If you understand this then you are a champion among men.

Okay so that is the back of your bow.  Your going to turn it so that the front side is facing you.  Take the top small part, pinch it to the bump in the middle.  This is were you are going to hot glue it.  After you do that, do the same thing to the bottom flap.

This is what your bow should look like before you add the 2 inch coordinating ribbon around the center

Next your just going to turn your bow over to the backside.  Put a little dot of hot glue then wrap your 2 in. coordinating ribbon around it.  Pinch it together.  After this trim the edges and run your lighter over it to seal the edges.

Next is the alligator clip cover.  This will take you all about 1 minute to do.  I can't wait till Brynlee has enough hair that these little clips will stay in her hair without having to use a headband!

Take your alligator clip and open it up.  Add a line of hot glue to the top inside of the clip.  Then place your ribbon on and close the clip.  Let it dry for a minute.  Then add a line of glue to the top of your clip, and place the rest of the ribbon on top and squeeze it.  Then just turn the clip over and add a little glue and stick the end of your ribbon on.

Now you're done! It takes practice and some messing around to see what look best, but overall it's an adorable little bow! In fact I am officially a ribbon junkie because of how much ribbon I bought.  There are just so many different kinds!  But seriously, don't I have the cutest little bow model! I'm extremely blessed.
